In addition to the wear of the outer steel wire, the steel wire rope is mainly broken due to the metal fatigue caused by repeated bending when it bypasses the pulley and drum. Therefore, the ratio of the pulley or drum to the diameter of the steel wire rope is an important factor determining the service life of the steel wire rope. The ratio is large, the bending stress of steel wire is small, the service life is long, but the mechanism is huge. The appropriate ratio must be determined according to the use situation. The wire rope shall be scrapped when the wear and corrosion degree of the surface layer or the number of broken wires in each thread exceeds the specified value.
